INDIAN SUMMER® is one of the latest varieties among trumpet creepers. It is a successful cross between c.tagliabuana and c.radicans that originated in the Netherlands and was patented in the USA under the name Kudian.
It blooms abundantly from early July until the first frosts if the plant has enough buds. Flowers are bright orange, sometimes with reddish throat, trumpet-shaped, up to 8 cm long. Pinnate leaves are deep to dark green, coarsely serrated, often with burgundy margins.
Another important feature is its slow growth. As opposed to north-american trumpet creepers it makes short and strong branches which are ideal for creating a spectacular, flowering shrub out of this originally climbing plant. We have built a simple support which will help the plant form a firm framework which will be easy to maintain by pruning every spring to 3 pairs of live buds.
It needs limey soil, dislikes acidic soil, and must not be over watered. Provide full sun for abundant flowering. Hardy to min. -29°C (USDA zone 5).
