Achillea millefolium 'RED VELVET' yarrow

Yarrow is a lovely perennial ideal for dry and neglected locations. Red Velvet is a variety with vibrant red flowers composed in flat corymbs. They come out atop 30-40 cm tall stems in June and July, yet some flowers are kept on producing until late summer.
Fern-like leaves are finely cut and rich grass green, basal leaves are larger than stem leaves. Once the main flowering has finished you can cut off the stems to encourage new growths and late summer flowering but it is not necessary.
Yarrow is a maintenance-free perennial suitable for standard flower beds as well as dry slopes and rockeries. It tolerates a wide range of soils except for boggy and wet. Full sun is needed for profuse flowering. Fully hardy to -40°C (USDA zone 3).
