POLYVERSUM® - Biogarden natural anti-fungal plant protection
Plant protection product for organic and ecological cultivation
POLYVERSUM® is a natural fungicide, often called the “smart fungus.” It contains the beneficial microorganism Pythium oligandrum, which attacks and breaks down harmful fungi in the soil and on plants. This protects vegetables, fruit, grapevines, and ornamentals from molds and rots, while also supporting plant health and growth. It is safe for people, bees, and pets, and has no pre‑harvest interval – crops can be eaten immediately after treatment.
-
What it can do: Suppresses fungal diseases such as grey mold (Botrytis), late blight (Phytophthora infestans), damping‑off, and root rots. It also stimulates the plant’s natural defense mechanisms and improves vitality.
-
What it cannot do: It does not act like a chemical fungicide with an immediate “burn‑down” effect. Its action is biological and gradual, requiring suitable conditions (moisture, warmth) to be effective.
-
What to use instead: If the infection is already severe and rapid intervention is needed, chemical systemic fungicides are more effective (e.g. Ridomil Gold for late blight, Switch for grey mold).
POLYVERSUM® contains oospores of the fungus Pythium oligandrum, which acts as a mycoparasite. It penetrates the tissues of pathogenic fungi (Botrytis, Phytophthora, Pythium, Fusarium, Alternaria, etc.), degrades their mycelium, and uses them as a nutrient source. At the same time, it produces the protein oligandrin, which induces systemic acquired resistance (SAR) in plants. This means the plant activates its own defense mechanisms – strengthening cell walls, limiting spore germination, and slowing pathogen growth. The product is registered as a microbial fungicide and is approved for use in organic farming.
-
Application: supplied as a wettable powder – used for seed treatment, seedling dipping, watering, or foliar spraying. Typical dilution is about 0.05% (1 g per 2 l of water). Treatments can be repeated during the growing season.
