Veronica 'CHRISTA'® speedwell

Christa® is a lovely speedwell introduction from early 2010’s. This hybrid offers uniquely formed inflorescence composed of tiny, deep indigo blue flowers. The spikes are topped with flattened combs that get bigger with age. They look exactly like flattened branches of Cristata Japanese Cedar. Christa®, compared with common speedwell, makes taller stems making it suitable as cut flower. In humus-rich soil it is well-branched, and if regularly dead-headed it keeps on flowering until late summer. Leaves are narrowly elliptic, mid green.
Speedwell will grow in any moist but well-drained, reasonably fertile soil, preferably in full sun but partial shade will do no harm. Hardy to about -34°C (USDA zone 4), and will grow well in a container, too, where the soil should never dry out.
