Levana hydrangea is a giant among pee gee (panicle-type) hydrangeas. It produces long, strong stems with up to 50 cm long inflorescence composed of pure white, large, sterile flowers and creamy white florets on long peduncles. Deciduous leaves are mid green, broadly ovate, marginally serrated.

This hydrangea is best pruned back every spring which will encourage strong new growths with super-sized flowers. Cut back last year’s wood to about 20% of its original length in early spring just before the buds begin to swell. On the other, if you want to make a large shrub of it, just trim the branches by some 30% and remove weak branches. This way it will eventually make about 4m in height.

Pee gee hydrangeas will grow in almost any soil type, preferably humus-rich, moist soil that will not be too heavy or shallow. You can grow it in sun or shade, it can take either position, but loves plenty of sun for profuse flowering. Hardy to about -34°C (USDA zone 4).
