Deciduous broadleaf Hedging plants |
Ninebark is a low-maintenance deciduous plant which is available in several varieties offering different leaf colour and shape. Centre Glow® is an American introduction patented in 2006 under PP16,894. It was hybridized by Harold M.Pellett as a cross between Diabolo® and Dart’s Gold varieties. The result is a medium-sized shrub with very attractive maple-like foliage. The leaves emerge rich coppery red and glow like embers until they mature to burgundy red on the upper side and green beneath. In late spring appear dense corymbs of pinkish white, melliferous flowers, soon followed by attractive purple red fruit that lasts until autumn when another nice feature becomes visible: peeling bark on older stems.
Ninebarks are so easy to grow. They take any soil, pH and location. The root system is so sturdy it can easily grow through heavy clay that will provide nutrients for a fantastic plant. André will look great grown next to other broadleaved plants with yellow or bright green foliage to provide the best contrast. Location in full sun will make the leaf colour deep. Pruning is not necessary as it branches well but you can cut it in any manner from late winter until early summer. Fully hardy to about -40°C (USDA zone 3) and suitable for outdoor pots.
