Japanese anemone is a late flowering perennial, commonly grown for autumn display of flowers. Following a huge success of Pretty Lady® series which offers flowers much earlier, their breeder Yoshihiro Kanazawa comes up with a new series called FANTASY™ and so far comprising of three varieties, all named by fairy tale characters: Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, and Pocahontas. They all bloom freely and abundantly already from early August until the last warm days of autumn. The plants more compact and bushier than the species.
FANTASY™ Cinderella is a Japanese anemone with single flowers combining rich pink and soft pink shades around a centre with yellow stamens. Flowers are borne freely on 40-45 cm tall stems, and the habit is a little looser compared to its two Fantasy sisters, yet very bushy. Basal leaves are deciduous, palmate, dark green, sharply toothed, sparsely hairy beneath. Even young plants flower abundantly and form bushy clumps. Patented in 2013 under PP25,367.
Japanese anemones like moist, humus-rich, slightly acidic, and well-drained soil. When planted in full sun and if you live in area with cold winters make sure the plants are well mulched to keep the roots cool and away from dry frost. They prefer slightly drier conditions before flowering in early summer, as well as in winter. Hardy to min. -34°C (USDA zone 4).
