Ground covering stonecrops are alpine perennials which are available in so many species and varieties that anyone can find his favourite. They are cultivated for the spreading, low habit, and offer a wide range of leaf shapes and colours, as well as attractive flowers. Many of them are evergreen, others are deciduous.

Lemon Ball is a beautiful ground covering stonecrop with chartreuse green foliage. Its small, evergreen, needle-like leaves are thick and contain a lot of water. They turn bright yellow for winter. In late spring or early summer emerge small, yellow, star-shaped flowers at tips of some branches. Lemon Green grows moderately, forming a thick cushion that resists some stepping on. It can be pruned in early spring.

Lemon Ball sedum is easy to grow, just make sure it does not stand in water. As one of its parents come from Mexico where plants are more drought tolerant rather than wet-loving, find a spot with free-draining, neutral to slightly alkaline soil, and plenty of sun. hardy to about -23°C (USDA zone 6).
