YUKI CHERRY BLOSSOM® is a deutzia variety bred by Thomas Green Ranney from State University of North Carolina, USA. It is a cross between slender deutzia NIKKO and deutzia x rosea Carminea. The result took almost 10 years and is a Nikko-like compact shrub with pale pink flowers.
YUKI CHERRY BLOSSOM® deutzia produces 10-15 cm long racemes of pearl-like, pale pink buds, which open into 5-petalled, white flowers with pink hues, and pink reverse. They are decorated with a crown of stamens in the centre, and bloom from about mid May for 3-4 weeks. Then it is best to prune the shrub by removing branches with spent flowers. This action will encourage growth of stronger and upright twigs that will bloom the following year. Without pruning the older branches become somewhat procumbent. Deciduous leaves are narrowly elliptic, 6-8 cm long, mid green, and turn red in autumn.
Deutzias are quite soil adaptable and will grow in sun or part shade, too, but will thrive in full sun and evenly moist soil. This one is great for larger rockeries or in cottage gardens. Fully hardy to about -30°C (USDA zone 5).
