Globe flower is a fantastic perennial, one of the slightly tallest ones. Its cup-shaped flowers are typical for the species – they look like miniatures of peonies. Cheddar is a witty name for a spectacular variety. Why not if its colour is so similar to possibly the most popular cheese in England.

Cheddar globe flower produces butter or cheesy yellow flowers atop some 80 cm tall stems from mid May until mid June. They rise well above the lush foliage making a stunning display especially when planted in mass. Leaves are palmate, finely divided, dark green, and glossy. After flowering the plant can be pruned hard to encourage growth of new leaves for the summer season, and perhaps a few flowering stems in late summer.

Globe flower loves damp situations and does not mind harsh winter (it comes from Siberia and northern parts of Asia). It will grow in full sun or partial shade, in any soil type including heavy (but not dry) clay, any pH. Hardy to about -40°C.
