Perennials Summer blooms |
If there is a perennial heaven, there must be plenty of blanket flowers. This is such a beautiful flowering plant that should not be missing in any bed where bright colours and summer flowering are key features. GALLO™ is another series of blanket flowers, this time very compact ones. They were bred by a dutch breeder Carla Moonen between 2003 and 2004. GALLO™ PEACH was patented as PP20717 in 2010.
GALLO™ PEACH is a compact and low growing variety of blanket flower. Its daisy-like flowers are a fascinating combination of golden yellow and orange colour on ray florets, and scarlet red and yellow in discs. Blanket flower belongs to the longest blooming summer perennials – from June until early autumn. They provide a continuous buffet for bees and bumble bees, and butterflies can also dine some of its nectar for a long time. Deciduous leaves are narrow, pale green, pubescent.
Place in full sun and make sure the soil is free draining – in boggy soil it will most certainly die over winter. Fertilizing is usually not needed, while regular deadheading can significantly enhance flowering. Hardy to min. -30°C (USDA zone 5), yet some suggest it will take a deeper frost.
