Helen’s flower (sneezeweed) is an attractive perennial for summer and autumn borders. Newer cultivars are selected for extended blooming time or different colour play. Strawberry Sundae is a variety from the Sundae series comprising plants with tasty names: Vanilla Sundae, Lemon Sundae, and now Strawberry Sundae. All of them boast compact and bushy growth and prolonged flowering.

Strawberry Sundae is a Helen's flower variety with rich red flowers and coppery orange undertones. To be honest I cannot see a strawberry colour anywhere but let's face the poetic license in naming new plants when the best girl names had already been taken. Anyway. The first flowers of this gorgeous invention appear in profusion as early as in mid August, and new buds keep coming up until autumn. If you deadhead spent flowers new flowers open sooner and make the plant look clean. Leaves are soft green, lanceolate, and appear along the stems as well as near the ground. The plant is dense and only about 50 cm tall.

Sneezeweed will grow in almost soil type but prefers fertile, reasonably drained but constantly moist soil and full sun. It hates drought. It is recommended to divide every 2-4 years to encourage new roots and young plants. All parts of the plant may cause severe discomfort if eaten. Fully hardy to about -34°C (USDA zone 4).
