SUN MAGIC VINTAGE is series of coneflowers bred by a German breeder Hartwig Bull in his nursery in Gönnebek. His goal was to hybridize and select varieties that will not only be beautiful, but also offer a uniform appearance, uncompromising health, and great garden performance. The most important visual factors for the selection of varieties were strong stems and showy, flat-shaped, and sturdy flowers that look up to their admirers with optimism.

SUN MAGIC VINTAGE RED coneflower produces immensely attractive in a breathtaking mixture of several tones: pink, orange, salmon, and magenta. The result is a soft red colour you cannot pass by without a glance. The flowers are about 6-7 cm across, central discs are dark orange to mahogany brown and offer plenty of nectar which mainly bumblebees and butterflies appreciate, but even a bee finds its way to it near the edge of the cone. Longevity of individual flowers is 2-3 weeks. The stems are dark, strong, and short – usually only about 30-40 cm tall. The leaves are long, broadly lanceolate, deep green, slightly rough and healthy. The plant forms dense and compact clumps with many flowering stems.

The plant is usually trouble-free and resistant, just be careful if slugs are present in your garden. Since coneflowers emerge quite late, often when slugs are already in their lethal strength, they could gobble up newly emerging foliage totally and thus destroy the plant before it even comes out.

Coneflower will tolerate almost any soil type but boggy. It loves full sun. It is suitable for mixed borders with perennials or can be used as a flowering feature among low shrubs and conifers, and looks lovely when planted in a mass in a container on patios and balconies. Pay special attention to planting especially these hybrid coneflowers – make sure the soil is fertile, free-draining but keep it evenly moist before the plant establishes. No extra watering is usually needed from the second year. Fully hardy to about -34°C (USDA zone 4).
