Arendsii hybrids of moss saxifrage are cute little perennials with evergreen foliage and masses of flowers early in the season. ALPINO™ EARLY is a Dutch series developed by Henricus Godefridus Wilhelmus Stemkens for Syngenta and stands out for very early flowering – often at least 2 weeks before TOURAN™ varieties.

ALPINO™ EARLY PICOTEE is an eye-catching moss saxifrage variety with white flowers, margined magenta red, and flushed dark pink. They are medium-sized and come out in profusion atop short stems (abt. 5-7 cm only) early in the season, usually from late March. The plant forms a compact clump of evergreen, soft green leaves. Flowers can create a breathtaking colourful carpet. It grows at moderate growth rate, doubling its size within one year.

Saxifrage likes moist but well-drained, loam-based soil and location in full sun or partial shade. It will form a dry nest in its centre in too dry soil in full sun. Hardy to about -34 °C (USDA zone 4). NOT suitable for pots and dry rockeries.
