Shasta daisy is a universal and easy-to-care-for plant that suits country cottage gardens as well as modern and city landscapes. Leucanthemum x superbum is a hybrid between l.lacustre and l.maximum, and are crossed even further for more beautiful flowers and longer blooming period. Nowadays most Shasta daisies are hybrids and are called just Leucanthemum, without superbum denomination.Description of the plant:
WESTERN STAR LEO is a Shasta daisy variety introduced by Syngenta Flowers in 2016. It bears beautiful, snow white, uniform flowers with yellow discs from late May until early July, and again from mid August. Leaves are deep green and glossy, narrowly lance-shaped, distinctly serrated. The plant makes a dense, compact clump about 20 cm tall with leaves, or 30 cm tall with flowers. It looks great combined with low growing and mat-forming perennials of contrasting colours such as blue flowering lithodora.Shasta daisy is widely soil adaptable provided the soil is evenly moist but well-drained. Just make sure the crown of plant is just above the soil level, never deeper. For best results we recommend growing it in humus-rich soil where the number of flowers and overall plant appearance will be better. It is commonly disease resistant but slugs become a problem when they find it since they love it - both flowers and foliage. Make sure they stay away from this beauty, otherwise they can eat the entire plant leaving bare stems in the bed. Fully hardy to about -30°C (USDA zone 5).
